Samsung appears to be preparing a significant camera innovation for its upcoming One UI 9 update. According to leaked screenshots of an internal beta build for the Galaxy S25 Plus, the company is developing a feature called 'My FanCam' that leverages Galaxy AI to intelligently reframe recorded videos. The leak, shared by user Fahad Ali Javed on X, offers a glimpse into what could become one of the most talked-about additions to Samsung's software suite.
What is My FanCam?
The My FanCam feature is designed to track subjects in a video and automatically reframe the shot to keep them centered. This concept is not entirely new to Samsung—the existing Auto Track feature already does something similar, but in real-time during recording. The key differentiator with My FanCam is that it operates on already captured footage. Users will be able to select a person or object from a recorded video, and the AI will process the clip to re-crop it dynamically, ensuring the chosen subject remains the focal point throughout.
This post-production capability is akin to tools seen in professional video editing software, but Samsung is aiming to make it accessible directly from the Gallery app or camera roll. The AI powered by Galaxy Neural Processing Units (NPUs) on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or Exynos 2400 chipsets will analyze the video frame by frame, identify the subject, and apply smooth reframing with automatic pans and zooms. This could be particularly useful for capturing action shots or group videos where the main subject moves around unpredictably.
Comparing My FanCam to Auto Track
The existing Auto Track feature, available in the Camera app, locks onto a subject and follows it during recording. It works well for videos like a child playing soccer or a pet running in a park. However, if the tracking fails or the subject goes out of frame, the resulting video may have abrupt cuts or missing content. My FanCam solves this by allowing users to salvage imperfect footage or even creatively reframe clips to emphasize a different subject without re-shooting.
Additionally, My FanCam might offer more flexibility: users can apply it to any existing video, not just those recorded with tracking enabled. This makes it a versatile tool for content creators and everyday users alike. For example, a vlogger could shoot a wide-angle scene and later crop it to focus on themselves, eliminating the need for a separate camera operator.
Other Features Coming in One UI 9
The One UI 9 leak also hints at several other features set to arrive on the Galaxy S25 series. One notable addition is 'Horizontal Lock', which presumably prevents accidental screen rotation when the device is used in landscape orientation. This feature was first introduced on the Galaxy S26 series and is now being backported. Another security enhancement is 'Secure Locking', a more robust method of locking specific apps or folders using biometrics or a separate PIN.
Samsung is also refreshing the Bixby voice interface with a new design, making it easier to adjust settings and launch commands. A new 'Warranty and care' section in the settings menu will provide users with a comprehensive overview of their device’s warranty status and maintenance tips. These improvements, while less flashy than My FanCam, contribute to a more polished user experience.
Galaxy AI and the Broader Ecosystem
The My FanCam feature underscores Samsung’s deepening investment in on-device AI. Galaxy AI already powers tools like Magic Editor, Circle to Search, and Live Translate. By bringing post-shot reframing, Samsung is directly challenging similar features from competitors. Google’s Pixel 8 series offers Magic Eraser and Audio Magic Eraser, but not video reframing. Apple’s Cinematic mode works during recording but not after. Taiwanese brand ASUS has a similar feature called 'Auto Reframe' in its Zenfone series, but it is limited to specific devices.
Samsung’s advantage lies in its massive install base—the Galaxy S25 series alone is expected to sell tens of millions of units. If My FanCam is well received, it could become a signature selling point for future Galaxy phones. Moreover, the feature may also appear on the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Z Fold 8, and Z Flip 8, which are rumored to launch on July 22. These foldables could benefit greatly from post-shot reframing, as their flexible displays allow for unique multi-camera setups.
Leak Details and Beta Program
The leaked screenshots are from an internal test build of One UI 9 for the Galaxy S25 Plus. This build appears to be a precursor to the official beta program, which is expected to begin soon. Samsung has historically rolled out One UI beta updates for its flagship devices a few months before the stable release. For the Galaxy S25, users can expect the beta to land in late July or early August, with a stable rollout following in September alongside Android 17.
It is important to note that the My FanCam feature is still in development. The leak does not confirm an official name or final functionality. Samsung may decide to rename it, add limitations, or scrap it entirely. However, the inclusion in an internal build suggests it is close to being ready for public testing.
Technical Underpinnings
For My FanCam to work effectively, the AI must perform real-time object detection and tracking on video that has already been encoded. This requires significant computational power. Samsung’s Exynos 2400 chip includes a dedicated NPU capable of 34 TOPS (trillion operations per second), while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy has an even more powerful Hexagon NPU. The AI model is likely trained on thousands of hours of video to recognise human faces, animals, and common objects. The reframing process will also account for smooth transitions, preventing jarring cuts.
Storage and performance are also considerations. Processing a 4K video can take several minutes, depending on length. Samsung may implement a background processing queue similar to how Magic Editor works on Google Photos. Users will see a progress indicator while the AI works its magic.
Impact on Content Creators
For YouTubers, TikTokers, and Instagram Reels creators, My FanCam could be a game-changer. Many influencers shoot solo and rely on static tripods or handheld gimbals. If they accidentally move out of frame, the entire take is wasted. Post-production reframing eliminates that risk. It also enables creative techniques like dynamic zoom-ins without physical lens movement. Samsung could even introduce integration with its Studio app for more advanced editing.
However, there may be limitations. The feature might require videos taken with the Galaxy S25 or newer devices, as older hardware may lack the necessary NPU power. Also, the reframing effect will likely be limited to standard resolutions up to 4K, and may not work on slow-motion or hyperlapse footage.
Looking ahead, Samsung is clearly positioning Galaxy AI as a central pillar of its software strategy. With One UI 9, the company aims to deliver features that were previously exclusive to professional editing tools. The leaked My FanCam feature is just one example; future updates could bring similar AI-driven enhancements to photos, audio, and even augmented reality.
As the July 22 foldable launch approaches, and with the S25 beta likely on the horizon, Samsung enthusiasts have plenty to be excited about. The My FanCam feature, if it lives up to the promise, could redefine how users capture and edit video on their phones. Until then, we await official confirmation from Samsung.
